“El Rio Hirviente de Mayantuyacu”
(The Boiling River of Mayantuyacu)
Approximately a 1-hr trip from Soi Rawa Spiritual Healing Center, the trip can be made via the main local road with a brief boat ride. Once we disembark it then requires a 45-minute to 1-hr hike to reach the thermal water river and pool.
The thermal hot waters are named “El Rio Hirviente de Mayantuyacu” (The Boiling River of Mayantuyacu). The boiling river of Mayantuyacu, named by the locals as Shanay Timpishka, is located in the district of Honoria, department of Huánuco. Mayantucayu is a center for the study of medicinal plants in which science is mixed with tradition to explore all the benefits of the flora that grows here.
The water temperature exceeds 90 degree Celsius. There is a man made pool where the temperature is low enough that it permits one to soak. Depending on the conditions there may be an opportunity to hike to another section of the river where the waters plunge over the rock formations and create a steam/mist. It is said by locals that the river has healing properties.

Heavy rainfall can impact the ability to travel in and out of the jungle. Heavy rainfall can often impede a planned trip. The best months for trips are late May – June, and late September and early October. From past experience, it’s more common than not the major excursion(s) are realized. Soi Rawa Spiritual Healing Center will help coordinate the trips with the guest(s)/pasajeros. The travel cost will be divided amongst the group and each person will be responsible for the cost of their own food and drink.
